The 'main suspect' of the Manipur sexual violence case has been arrested, and the police mentioned identifying the suspect from the video.
To apprehend the accused, Manipur Police has formed a total of 12 teams.
In connection with the gruesome incident of sexual violence that occurred in Manipur, the police have arrested one suspect. The accused has been identified as 32-year-old Khuyarum Heradas. According to reports, he was arrested on the morning of 20th July from Thoubal district. Manipur Police has stated that Heradas is the prime accused in the case.
Anupam Mishra, associated with Aaj Tak, has prepared a report on the case. It is being stated that the individual seen in the viral video wearing a green shirt is indeed Heradas. Manipur Police has formed a total of 12 teams to apprehend the suspects. The police raid is ongoing to capture the remaining accused.
A viral video depicting sexual violence against women is reported to be from 4th May. The video shows the sexual assault of two women, and the brutality is beyond comprehension. The victims are being paraded in a naked state, and a crowd of people is also seen participating in this heinous act.
What was mentioned in the complaint?
In the complaint given to the police, the village head (Mukhiya) provided a detailed account of the incident. According to the statement, around 900-1000 people gathered around their village 'B. Phenom' at approximately 3 PM on 4th May. These individuals were likely members of militant organizations and were heavily armed with automatic weapons. After vandalizing and looting homes in the village, they set fire to the properties.
In an attempt to escape from the unruly mob, three women and two men fled towards the jungle. The police team managed to rescue them and began taking them to the police station. However, the violent mob intercepted them and forcibly snatched the five individuals from the police's custody. Subsequently, the mob brutally killed a 56-year-old man right there. The mob also tore the clothes off three women aged 21, 42, and 52, parading them naked during the procession. The entire incident was also captured on video.
Following this, the mob proceeded towards the rice fields, where a 21-year-old girl was gang-raped in front of her 19-year-old brother. When the brother attempted to save his sister, he was brutally killed. Later, with the help of some people, the three women managed to escape from there.
On 18th May, a zero FIR was lodged at the Kangpokpi police station. Later, on 21st June, it was transferred to the Sekmai Thana in Thoubal district.
