Maharashtra: The entire village came under the grip of a landslide, 4 dead and more than 50 people trapped.

At the time of the incident, it is difficult to estimate the number of people present in the village. According to the Raigad police, they have rescued 22 individuals so far.

In Maharashtra, heavy rainfall is wreaking havoc on people. On the late night of 19th July, a major incident occurred in Raigad district due to the rain. The village of Irshalwadi in Khalapur tehsil of the district was engulfed by a massive landslide. As of now, four people have been reported dead in this incident, while there are concerns that over 50 people might be trapped under the debris. The state's Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, has already reached the site to assess the situation.

According to Devesh Tripathi's report on Aaj Tak, it is challenging to estimate the number of people present in the village at the time of the incident. As per the Raigad police, they have rescued 22 people so far. Currently, more than 100 officers from the police and district administration are engaged in rescue operations. The Raigad police are receiving assistance from the NDRF, local residents, and some non-governmental organizations. After receiving the information about the incident, four teams of the NDRF promptly arrived at the scene to provide relief and aid in rescue efforts.

Reaching the incident site is difficult.

As per the news published in Hindustan Times, Yogeesh Mhase, the District Collector of Raigad, stated that the incident occurred during the midnight hours. After receiving the information, a team comprising a sub-divisional officer and the tehsildar of Khopoli reached the scene. During their efforts, they managed to safely rescue seven individuals. According to Mhase, reaching the incident site requires a two-hour climb, which poses a significant challenge for the relief and rescue teams.

The Home Minister tweeted.

Regarding this incident, the Home Minister has tweeted, stating that evacuating people from there is our top priority. In his tweet, he wrote: "Our priority is to rescue the people from there."

I had a conversation with Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde regarding the landslide caused by heavy rainfall in Raigad, Maharashtra. Four teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have reached the incident site and are actively engaged in rescue operations alongside the local administration. Evacuating people from there and providing immediate medical assistance to the injured are our top priorities.

Amidst the ongoing continuous rainfall in the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a "Red Alert" for Raigad on 20th July. Following the landslide incident, the district administration has appealed for the assistance of non-governmental organizations and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to join the rescue campaign.
