On 29th July, clashes and stone-pelting occurred during the Muharram procession in Nangloi, Delhi. Several people were injured in the violence. The next day, activists from Hindu organizations staged a strong protest outside the Nangloi Police Station. It is reported that during the half-hour protest, slogans like 'Shoot the traitors of the country...' were also raised.

What happened on the day of Muharram?
According to Arvind Ojha's report from Aaj Tak, in the Nangloi area, Tajias were being immersed at the Surajmal Stadium. It is alleged that some youths who attended the gathering demanded entry into the stadium. Policemen stopped them from entering and locked the gates of the stadium, which led to a dispute.
The police stated that a lathi-charge was carried out to control the crowd. It is alleged that the crowd also resorted to stone-pelting on the police. Due to the commotion and stone-pelting during the procession, 12 policemen and some civilians were injured, and police vehicles were also damaged.
What action has been taken so far?
In this case, the Delhi Police has registered three separate FIRs. These include charges related to instigating violence and attempted murder. Harendra Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Outer Delhi, informed India Today that the clash began when an attempt was made to take the Tajias on a different route. The DCP stated,
"Some people attempted to forcibly take the Tajia on a different route inside the Maharaja Surajmal Stadium. When the police tried to stop the route diversion, some individuals within the procession started pelting stones. To control the situation, the police resorted to a lathi-charge. Currently, the situation is under control. The identification of the culprits is being done through video footage."
According to the report, an FIR has been registered based on the statement of Nangloi's SHO, Prabhu Dayal. In the statement, the SHO mentioned that the organizers of the Tajia, who arrived with 6-7 carts, started instigating the crowd to enter the stadium.
According to SHO Prabhu Dayal, some individuals in the crowd were carrying weapons such as swords, knives, iron rods, and sticks. Despite the police's attempts to discourage them, the crowd started pelting stones. During the commotion, one person in the crowd also attacked an SI (Sub-Inspector) with a knife.
