It wasn't easy going from the madness of Sajid Khan's Hey Baby to the mystique of Priyadarshan's Bhool Bhulaiya.

But Vidya Balan is in a versatile mode. She has just completed two back-to-back films that required her to move from one area and era to another.

What's more, she finally got to do a fun film, all thanks to her buddy Sajid Khan.

She brightens up at his mention. "I've known Sajid from college. I remember inviting him for Malhar, St Xavier's festival. I've known him since then. He's such a livewire, we all ended up behaving like mad people on the sets."

In contrast there's Priayadarshan. "His clarity of thought is unbelievable. He's a man of few words. And he calls a spade and spade. Initially I was very scared of him. But then I saw him bantering with Paresh Rawail. And I realized he's a fun person. All of us would be laughing and behaving as though we were doing a light film together in Jaipur."

Vidya feels Hey Baby will show her in a new light. "I've never done a film where I could let my hair down. I'd say it's step forward for me. I mean, I did enjoy being the serious thinking actress in Parineeta and the social crusader, the investigative journalist in Salaam-e-Ishq and the socially aware rj in Salaam-e-Ishq."

But somewhere deep down Vidya was getting somewhat alarmed by her cerebral image. "I'm a fun-loving girl who cracks and laughs at jokes with equal enthusiasm. Sajid Khan's Hey Baby is a first of its kind for me. So far I hadn't done an out-and-out commercial film. It's a fun film.

It has all the elements of a mainstream Hindi film. …and am I the baby of the title? I won't give away that suspense? Jokes aside, Hey Baby was in direct contrast to Priyadarshan's Bhool Bhulaiya which I shot right after."

It's a very different Akshay Kumar she costars in both. "We are in such different terrain in Hey Baby and Bhool Bhulaiya and yet we had so much fun doing bothe films."
