Before shifting to Bombay, Rafi sahib lived in our neighbourhood in the nostalgic city of Lahore. After that, perhaps the only occasion he paid a short visit to Lahore was when his brother died there. He was surrounded by the ardent fans and erstwhile 'mohalladars', and the excited crowd lovingly demanded the bereaved singer to sing, for them, a few lines from some of his famous songs. It's his sheer greatness that Rafi sahib did oblige them despite utter grief of his brother's demise. It was a very touching scene indeed! Nadeem Asghar. London
