A touring company has bought Mahatama Gandhi's South Africa house for almost double the asking price of USD 377,029 outbidding Indians.
This house is in Orchards, Johannesburg, where Mahatma Gandhi lived from 1908 to 1910 and worked towards his Satyagraha philosophy of non-violent resistance.
The thatched-roof rondavel- style house was designed by Gandhi's confidant and architect Hermann Kallenbach.
The buyer is French specialist touring company Voyageurs du Monde, which is also listed on the Paris Stock Exchange intends to preserve the house as heritage property
Coal India Limited had also expressed interest in acquiring the property. The company beat other bidders including Indian and Malaysian businessmen who are Gandhi's followers.
