भारतीय जनता पार्टी से निकाले जाने पर वरिष्ठ नेता जसवंत सिंह ने दु:ख ज़ाहिर करते हुए कहा है कि अफ़सोस है कि केवल एक किताब लिखने से उन्हें हनुमान से रावण बना दिया गया है.
वित्तमंत्री और विदेश मंत्री रह चुके जसवंत सिंह ने कहा कि उन्हें शिमला पहुंचने के बाद टेलीफ़ोन से पार्टी अध्यक्ष राजनाथ सिंह ने पार्टी से निकाले जाने की सूचना दी.
उन्होंने कहा कि अच्छा होता अगर आडवाणी और राजनाथ सिंह उन्हें व्यक्तिगत तौर पर इसकी सूचना देते.
जसवंत सिंह पार्टी की चिंतन बैठक में शामिल होने के लिए शिमला पहुंचे थे लेकिन उन्हें बैठक में आने से मना कर दिया गया.
उन्होंने कहा कि जब कोई देश मनन, चिंतन, पठन, लेखन से विमुख हो जाता है तो वो उस देश के भविष्य के लिए बुरा होता है.
उनका कहना था: ``और जब कोई राजनीतिक पार्टी इन सबसे विमुख हो जाए तो ये उसके लिए एक काला दिन होता है.’’
जसवंत सिंह ने अपनी किताब “जिन्ना: इंडिया, पार्टीशन, इंडिपेंडेंस’’ में भारत के विभाजन के लिए केवल जिन्ना को ज़िम्मेदार नहीं ठहराते हुए नेहरू, पटेल और कांग्रेस को भी उसका ज़िम्मेदार बताया है.
मंगलवार को ही भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने स्पष्ट कर दिया था कि वो इस राय से सहमत नहीं हैं.
राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ और शिवसेना ने भी नाराज़गी ज़ाहिर की थी.

1967 में फ़ौज छोड़कर राजनीति में कूदनेवाले जसवंत सिंह का कहना था कि उन्होंने तीस साल तक पार्टी की यथाशक्ति सेवा की है.
उनका कहना था: ``बहुत पहले इंडिया टूडे में एक कार्टून छपा था जिसमें मुझे हनुमान के तौर पर दिखाया गया था. दु:ख होता है कि एक किताब की वजह से मैं हनुमान से रावण बन गया हूं.’’
जसवंत सिंह ने पिछले दिनों में पार्टी की अंदरूनी राजनीति पर भी सवाल उठाए थे.
उसका हवाला देते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि एक दस्तावेज़ में उन्होंने पूछा था: ``हम स्वार्थ में डूब जाएंगे, स्व की ही सोचते रहेंगे और देश के स्वाभिमान की नहीं सोचेंगे तो क्या होगा.’’
पत्रकारों के सवालों में जब उन्हें आडवाणी के जिन्ना प्रसंग और उसके बाद पार्टी के रवैये से तुलना करने को कहा गया तो जसवंत सिंह ने कोई सीधा हमला तो नहीं किया लेकिन दोहरे मापदंड की ओर इशारा ज़रूर किया.
उन्होंने ये भी स्पष्ट किया कि इस मामले का आख़िरी अध्याय अभी नहीं लिखा गया है.
उन्होंने कहा: ``मुझे पार्टी से निकाला गया है लेकिन मेरा राजनीतिक जीवन अभी समाप्त नहीं हुआ है.’’
उनका कहना था कि आज की राजनीति की जो नैतिकता है उस पर गंभीरता से सोच विचार करके लिखने की ज़रूरत है.

SHIMLA: He had gone from being the party's Hanuman to its Ravana, a tearful Jaswant Singh said on Wednesday shortly after he got a phone call
from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh that he had been expelled from the party.
Saying that he was "sad and regretful", the 71-year-old former union minister, who has held the portfolios of defence, finance and external affairs, said he got a phone call at 1pm from Rajnath Singh informing him that he had been expelled from the "basic membership of the party".
"It is sad and I regret it for a number of reasons, which I cannot explain in detail," Jaswant Singh said in Shimla where the BJP began its three-day introspection meeting Wednesday.
The expulsion comes two days after the release of his controversial book praising Pakistan founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah, "Jinnah: India, Partition, Independence".
He referred to a cartoon in India Today magazine that had portrayed him as Hanuman and said he had now become the Ravana of the BJP.
"I have been a member of the BJP since it was formed (in 1980)," he said.
"I had never imagined that 30 years of my service would have ended this way. It's regretful," the visibly emotional Jaswant Singh added.
He said he also "regretted" that the party president informed him about the decision over the phone and not personally.
"I would have stepped down had they informed me in person," he said.
"I am worried and sad that just one book has led to my expulsion," he added, wondering what would happen if "soch, vichar and chintan" (thinking and introspection) stopped in Indian politics.
He, however, said he didn't regret writing the book.
"They (BJP leaders) have not even read it completely."
