Manipur sexual violence: Phone that recorded videos of women recovered from accused
The Manipur police have apprehended six suspects so far, including one minor. Raids are ongoing at various locations to arrest the remaining suspects involved in the case.

In the case of Manipur Sexual Violence, the police have a significant piece of evidence in their possession. One of the accused was found with a phone believed to be the same device used to record and spread the viral video of the incident. This phone could potentially serve as crucial evidence in the investigation of the case. So far, the Manipur police have arrested six suspects, including one minor, and continue to conduct raids at different locations to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the alleged crime.
Under the condition of anonymity, a police officer informed Hindustan Times that they have seized the phone and sent it to the cyber cell. The officer stated, "We believe that we have the phone from which the video was recorded."
The officer further mentioned that some individuals from the mob involved in the sexual violence case may be part of the group that attacked Beinoum village on the night of May 4th. On the same night, another attack occurred in a different village within the Nongpok Sekmai police station area.
As of now, there is no information available about which suspect had possession of the phone. Prior to this, the police had revealed that the accused were sent into 11 days of police custody.
Police negligence!
According to the report by HT's Pravesh Lama, around 2 hours after the incident occurred, a police team visited the village. Based on the police records examined by HT, the team found "no evidence of harm to human life" in the village and returned.
As per the report, the police described the situation in the village as "calm" since no suspects were found at the scene. This information was recorded in the FIR (6)(5) of 2023 filed at the Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district.
