Following a chilling incident, Argentine footballer Luciano Sanchez might face a year-long hiatus from the field due to a complete dislocation of his left knee, an injury that his doctor claims to be unlike anything he has ever witnessed before.

The injury occurred when Fluminense's Marcelo unintentionally placed his entire weight on the shin of the Argentinos Juniors defender, causing his leg to bend completely backward and eliciting horrified reactions both on and off the field.

Marcelo, a revered 35-year-old Brazilian football icon, departed the field with tears in his eyes following an inadvertent injury. He had attempted to maneuver around Sanchez, but unfortunately, he landed his step directly onto Sanchez's leg.

As a result, the 29-year-old began to cry out in agony and required assistance from a stretcher to be taken off the field.

Marcelo displayed evident distress over causing harm to his opponent and was emotional, shedding tears as he received a red card.

Sanchez's fellow teammates initially thought he had sustained a leg fracture during the episode.

However, his club later confirmed that he had, in reality, experienced a complete dislocation of his knee.

Argentinos' physician, Dr. Alejandro Ronconi, projected a recovery period of approximately 10-12 months for Sanchez. Speaking on Wednesday to D Sports Radio, Ronconi revealed, "In my 23 years as a doctor, I have never encountered a situation like this; it's akin to almost separating the femur and fibula."

He further explained that Sanchez, aged 29, would need to undergo multiple surgical procedures to reconstruct the knee.

"On the field today, I faced a challenging situation. I unintentionally caused harm to a fellow professional. I sincerely hope for your swiftest and fullest recovery," Marcelo shared on social media.

In response, Argentinos conveyed, "We may be opponents on the pitch, but not adversaries off it." They extended gratitude to Marcelo and Fluminense for their compassion.

The match concluded in a 1-1 draw, setting the stage for another encounter between the two teams in Rio de Janeiro next week.

The Copa Libertadores, an annual football championship, represents the pinnacle of competition in South America.
