Earlier in India, BlackBerry refreshed its Curve line-up with the launch of low-cost BlackBerry Curve 8520. The phone replaced BlackBerry’s traditional trackball navigation and became the first BlackBerry device to sport dedicated music keys.
Here's looking into Storm2, BlackBerry's latest competition to Apple iPhone and its ilk.
Looks:
BlackBerry Storm2 features a 3.25-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 360 x 480 pixels. Storm2, like its predecessor, doesn’t have a physical keyboard. Instead, it simulates the click of buttons with an electrical pulse when users touch the screen. Almost identical to its predecessor, the phone has gone a bit slimmer and trimmer than the older version.
Faster browser
BlackBerry's latest smartphone features a much faster web browser than the previous Storm which was introduced last year.
The smartphone retains the original Storm's clickable touchscreen interface, but improves upon it with faster typing and "multitouch" capabilities, which allow users to type on more than just one part of the screen at a time.
Camera & memory
The new BlackBerry smartphone packs a 3.2 megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom, image stabilisation, autofocus, flash and video recording as well as 256 MB of Flash memory. The smartphone will come with 2GB of memory which can be extended to 32GB.
New tactile feedback
BlackBerry Storm2 brings a new SurePress technology based on an electronic suspension system that provides the user with tactile feedback when the touchscreen is pressed. Its new electronic system responds even to gentle pressure applied anywhere on the surface of the screen and makes clicking the display almost effortless.
Its new technology will also allow the user to type a letter with one thumb even while the other thumb may still be touching or resting on another letter, enabling faster typing.
Other features
The handset also has 3G capabilities, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, and can add new programnes from the BlackBerry App World. Storm2 packs a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as a media player for videos, pictures and music. The phone also has Wi-Fi capability like some of the other devices in the BlackBerry lineup.
Availability
Storm2 will be offered exclusively by Vodafone in Germany, Netherlands and Spain, and would also be made available in France, Italy and South Africa around Christmas time. The India launch date is yet to be announced.
