Microsoft has apologised for editing a black man out of a photo on its Polish website, but it is not the first time that images have been altered to change the race of those pictured. Officials in Toronto looking to trumpet the diversity of their proudly multicultural city were unhappy with the photo chosen for the cover of a guide to local leisure facilities. The family members in the image – who appeared to be Hispanic – did not reflect the area's ethnic mix. It was decided to superimpose a stock image of a smiling black man on to the father's face, but the photoshopping was so amateurish that the tweak was soon spotted.
