Pirates of the Caribbean parrot attacks police officer

pirates_of_caribbean

A parrot that appeared in the Pirates of the Caribbean film, starring Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley, has attacked a police officer after its owner was pulled over for driving with the bird perched on her shoulder.

The officer asked the female driver to pull over after spotting her arriving at Dover ferry dock in Kent with the macaw flying loose in the vehicle.

He arrested her after checks showed she was banned from driving, and then arranged for PC Martin Dadd, a new recruit, to take her vehicle to the pound with the parrot still inside.

The bird, apparently angry at being separated from its owner, then launched wave after wave of attack on the young officer, leaving him with bite and scratch marks to his hands and arms.

Chief Superintendent Steve Masters, of the Port of Dover Police, said: "A volunteer was sought, the officer with the least length of service, to drive the vehicle to a more appropriate location.

"A very nervous probationary officer then proceeded to drive the vehicle to the police station with great difficulty and an equal amount of dexterity as the macaw perched itself on the steering wheel pecking at his fingers throughout the journey."

Officers later discovered that the 3ft macaw was the mouthpiece of Pirate Cotton in the 2003 hit movie The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Pirate Cotton, played by David Bailie, was left mute after another pirate cut out his tongue during a fight – so in the film his character uses the parrot called to speak on his behalf.

Chf Supt Masters said: "A relative of the lady came to pick up the macaw and told us that it had been used in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

"It was a bit of surprise I must admit to end up with a celebrity on our hands."

The parrots owner was arrested and bailed for driving while disqualified. She is due to appear before magistrates later this month.
