Realising that with limited powers it cannot take concrete action against the channel NDTV Imagine, NCPCR has written to the I&B Ministry registering a complaint against the show. The directives of NCPCR are not mandatory and are rather recommendatory in nature.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also issued a notice to the TV channel giving them time till October 7 to pull the show off air.
"We have already issued a notice to the channel asking them to stop the broadcast of the serial," NCPCR member Sandhya Bajaj said.
Reacting to the notice, the channel on Friday said it will not comply with the NCPCR directive to stop the telecast of the serial. They also claimed that the commission did not consult them before issuing the notice.
"We are very surprised by this notice, as NCPCR has not approached either NDTV Imagine or BBC (the format owner and producer of this show) to seek any clarifications pertaining to their concerns. Without giving us an opportunity to address any of the issues raised, they have issued this notice and have gone to media with the same," an official statement issued by the channel here said.
