‘Quick Gun Murugun’ is about the misadventures of the Indian cowboy Murugun (Dr. Rajendraprasad) with ‘guntastic’ powers and his fight with his arch rival, Rice Plate Reddy (Nasser) who wants to promote non-vegetarianism.
The film opens with Murugun been killed in 1982 and sent to ‘Ministry of Death Headquarters’, yeah, if that’s not funny enough, he is sent back to wipe out his enemy as ‘vegetarianism is the need of the hour’. What follows is Murugun hunting for his enemy in 2007 Mumbai and enough instances to tickly your funny bone!
Director Shashanka Ghosh is successful in keeping the flavour of this Tamil-English film intact by offering a genuine mix of comedy, drama, emotions, revenge and high-voltage ‘gun’ shots. The scene where two Murugun brother meet in Matunga, Mumbai deserves special mention.
Quick Gun is not just mindless comedy but also has a funny story to it where the villain wants to rule the world with non-veg dosas and he will do anything and everything to get the best dosa recipe in the world. Rajesh Devraj’s attempt in this department is noteworthy.
Music and background score are in sync with the mood of the film, and although, you spend most time reading the English titles for the Tamil lyrics, the songs add to the fun factor.
Telugu superstar Dr. Rajendraprasad is truly the hero of the film and pulls the film with his histrionics effortlessly. Though Rambha is there for a small part, her performance as Mongo Dolly is colourful and juicy. Anu Menon (aka Lola Kutty) as Murugun’s Locket Lover is hillarious. Nasser is consistent in a negative role with Gunpowder and Rowdy MBA (his assistants in the film) for company. Vinay Pathak, Sandhya Mridul, Gaurav Kapoor are decent in their special appearance. Watch out for Ranvir Shorey’s guest appearance that will make you laugh your guts out!
