There’s a new star on the political firmament. Actress Dimple Kapadia has taken her first steps in electoral politics by campaigning for the Congress in Mumbai. She joins an illustrious list of her tinsel town colleagues who have shown more interest in the ballot box rather than the box office in recent past.
2. Sanjay Dutt
Before Dimple Kapadia, many actors have tried their luck in politics. Actor Sanjay Dutt, who was denied permission by the Supreme Court to contest elections, enjoys the post of national general secretary of the Samajwadi Party.
3. Govinda
Actor Govinda was an MP till the last Lok Sabha elections from the Congress Party. But he was denied a ticket in the previous Lok Sabha elections.
4. Jaya Bachchan
Though Man of the Millennium Amitabh Bachchan left politics long back saying he was inadequate for it, his wife Jaya Bachchan is a Rajya Sabha MP from Samajwadi Patry.
5.Jaya Prada
Actress Jaya Prada who won from Rampur parliamentary constituency had a successful filmy career before entering into politics.
6. Salman Khan
In the previous Lok Sabha election one actor who went across the party line and campaigned was Salman Khan. He campaigned both for congress as well as BJP candidates.
7.Jayalalithaa
Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa also known as Amma was a very popular Tamil film star before her entry into politics.
8. Hema Malini
Bollywood’s dreamgirl Hema Malini, who starred in numerous successful Bollywood films in the 1970s, most notably the extremely successful Sholay, joined BJP and became an MP, but she refused to contest the previous Lok Sabha election.
9. Dharmendra
Hema’s husband Dharmendra who was an MP from Bikaner didn’t earn as much accolades in politics as he did in films. The actor was severely criticised for not doing anything for his constituency.
