But when it was on, it took so much print space that people even compared it to the classic Stone Age romance of Amitabh and Rekha. It kept the grapevine vendors busy 24-7, and when it came to an end, it rendered quite a few jobless.

3. Abhishek Bachchan - Karisma Kapoor

Abhi and Karisma, when they got engaged on the 60th B'day of the iconic Amitabh Bachchan, were touted to be the 'golden couple of Bollywood'. The reason for the break-up is still a mystery! Abhishek sulked, till he stumbled upon a maiden by the name Aishwarya Rai!

4. Akshay Kumar – Shilpa Shetty

Akshay Kumar, in his prime, was the Mohammed Ghazni of Romance. Or, so it seems. After breaking-up with Raveena, Akki "found comfort" in Shilpa Shetty, who obviously had no Big Brother to guard her then. After filling the gossip columns for a considerable period, the duo parted ways.

5. Amir Khan - Reena

Aamir was the nation's favourite Family Man, when he dropped the bomb in December, 2002. He divorced "Bachpan ka sathi" Reena Dutta. They had married in the year that saw the release of Aamir's debut film 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'. Aamir went on to marry Kiran Rao, who was an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowariker during the 'Lagaan' days. Reena took custody of the children, Junaid and Ira.

6. Leander Paes – Mahima Chaudhry

There was a time when Leander Paes's fans could clearly distinguish a unique squeal that came from the VIP box every time he served an ace. It was none other than Mahima Choudhary, the 'Pardes' girl. Paes, famous for his mixed doubles trophies, couldn't sustain it with Mahima. Leander is now married to Rhea Pillai; Mahima is not a visible Bollywood star anymore.

7. Vivek Oberoi – Aishwarya Rai

This is more a supposed love affair than a real one. Vivek was vocal about it, and Ash was mum. After some verbal vollies from the Oberoi, professing his admiration for Ash and his readiness to take on Salman Khan, the gossip hawks instinctively abandoned this love story, for better and spicier bytes that had both the man and his girl talking about each other!

8. Preity Zinta - Ness Wadia

To call this a break-up would be to guess too early, but going by what the little birdie says, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia could have bilaterally called it a day!

9. Kamal Hassan - Sarika

Kamal Haasan and Sarika tied the knot in the last year of Antiquity and the first year of Modernity, i.e. 1987! The moral premise on which they tied the knot was the same on which they called it a day: The 'Pati, Patni aur Woh' premise! Kamal divorced Sarika in 2002. For Kamal, the formula keeps on repeating (with a few prosthetic changes, of course)!

10. Shahid Kapoor - Kareena Kapoor

A love story that took almost all available technological innovations to propagate itself: The Shahid-Kareena tale was played out on the newspapers, TV, Net and through MMS chains. All that remain now are bitter memories. And a song: Yeh Ishq, Haay..."

For the Fourth Estate, the Priyanka-Harman love story was finished even before it began! You remember 'Love Story 2050', that moronic sci-fi rom? In Bollywood, they say, a flop can really give you a chop!

12. Kangana Ranaut - Adhyayan Suman

Another sporadic love story that refused to grow up into an epic! Kangana saw Adhyayan. They kissed! They parted! She smiled! He cried!

13. Saif Ali Khan - Amrita Singh

Saif, they say, once believed that you cannot catch them young and watch them grow. He caught Amrita Singh old and watched her Go! The Nawab has, ever since, been erratic in his romances. He is in good hands now, say B'wood cherubs. Kareena is a veteran romantic. Saif might not have found his match, but he has certainly met his match!

14. Salman Khan – Katrina Kaif

We are really wary when discussing Salman Khan's romances. He has a history of violence, you know! So, we would prefer to put it across like this: "Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, who were once invariably lost in their love for each other, are not often seen together these days. The H1N1 scare could be the reason for this." Safe?
